Our Work: helping the High Street prosper

It’s tough to be a small retailer – especially when you’re competing against multinational corporations during a pandemic. Yet small shops are the lifeblood of towns and villages, and we hate the idea of a world dominated by a small handful of online retailers who give nothing back.

We have a particular love for Winchombe’s High Street, so we wanted to help the independent shops which give the town its character.

We focussed on:

  • the things which make the town’s shops unique, such as the diverse range of stock (chosen and merchandised by the owners themselves)
  • the things which make the town a smart option for a shopper, such as free parking
  • the reasons to love and celebrate a small, independent, vibrant shopping precinct

We worked with the retailers – over 50 in all – to hone the messages down to a set of important and unique characteristics. We then brought them to life through the town’s unique stories and colourful characters.

We even introduced new events, including late night Christmas shopping and “Ladies’ Day” – as well as delivering promotions via print, social media, a website and radio.

We’re thrilled to see the local shops weathered the pandemic and continue to prosper. If you’re ever in the Cotswolds, be sure to give Winchcombe a try!
